Unlike bustling Istanbul, this region’s cooler temperatures provided a refreshing change. The locals welcomed us with open arms, offering grapes fresh off the vine and sharing their warmth.

Staying in a Village Cave Hotel

Our home base was called Route One, a budget-friendly accommodation at just $40 per night. One standout feature of many Airbnbs and hotels in this area is the rooftop terraces, perfect for watching the famed Cappadocian hot air balloons float across the sky at dawn.

Meanwhile, if you prefer staying closer to Goreme, prepare for a price bump with rooms starting at around $76 per night. Despite the price differences, the proximity and ease of access make it a worthwhile choice for many.

With our bags packed, we decided to explore the city center. Before catching a cab, we meandered through our little village, encountering lush fruit trees and grapevines. What struck us the most was the locals’ generosity—a gentleman gifted us a bunch of grapes, sweet and juicy.
