August 10, 2024Camper Van Life Alaska Exploring The Great Frontier
Our journey is set, and we’re ready! We’re taking our camper van life to Alaska, and the excitement is through the roof. But first, let’s catch you up and tell you why we’ve been missing for the last two months.
Current Location: Buffalo, NY
We’re currently in Buffalo, NY, preparing for our big trip to Alaska. Transitioning from Buffalo to the vast wilderness of Alaska will be quite the change, and we can’t wait to share every moment with you.
Why We’ve Been M.I.A. for Two Months
Life’s been a whirlwind these last two months. Between Daniel’s graduation, his prom, and a little summer vacation, we’ve barely had a moment to catch our breath.
Niagra Falls Is A Must…
Daniel’s Graduation Celebration
Daniel has been learning online since we moved abroad, first to Malaysia and now on our travels. To see him walk across the stage for his graduation was an emotional and proud moment for our family. The transition from digital learning to in-person graduation was as significant for him as it was for us, knowing all the hard work paid off.
Daniel’s Prom Experience
Prom was another milestone. Getting everything ready for Daniel’s first prom was hectic but worth it. He got to experience an important high school event, even after years of online learning and travel. The joy on his face made every effort worthwhile.
May: The Busiest Month
May was packed with events:
- Prom
- Graduation
- Daniel’s birthday
- An East Coast family trip
The East Coast Trip: A Special Farewell
This trip was special. It was our last big adventure with Daniel before he heads off to college. We wanted to make it memorable and cherish the time we had left together.
Buffalo and Niagara Falls
In Buffalo, we explored Niagara Falls. If you’re in the Buffalo area, a trip to Niagara Falls is a must. We recommend viewing from both the U.S. and Canadian sides for the full experience. It’s truly breathtaking and something we’d all remember forever.
Daniel’s East Coast Adventures
Atlanta Visit
We started in Atlanta, visiting friends and family. Family connections are important, and it gave us more valuable memories to hold onto.
Stop in Virginia and D.C.
We made stops in Virginia and D.C. Here, we saw monuments and parts of the capital, enriching our trip with a touch of history and culture.
Philadelphia Cheesesteaks
In Philadelphia, we had to try the famous cheesesteaks. We visited both Pat’s and Gino’s to compare and savor the iconic flavors.
New York City Excursion
New York was a blast. We visited all the boroughs, ate street pizza, and even took a photo in front of Nicki Minaj’s old house – a bucket list item for Daniel. Each experience was authentic and unforgettable.
Daniel’s Departure and Future Plans
After our East Coast trip, we put Daniel on a plane back to New Orleans for his summer job. It’s a new chapter for him, and for us, the beginning of our journey to Alaska.
Introduction to Alaska Journey
We’re embarking on a 16-day road trip to Alaska in our camper van. Our plan includes driving about four hours each day and resting in between. With excitement and a bit of nervousness, we gear up for this incredible adventure.
First Leg: Ohio
Our first stop is Ohio. We plan to visit friends and sightsee before continuing our journey. Ohio will be a nice break and a chance to rejuvenate.
Future Stops: Planning Ahead
After Ohio, we head to Chicago and then continue through smaller towns up to Canada. Each stop is an opportunity to experience new places and cultures.
Changes Ahead: Becoming Empty Nesters
Traveling without Daniel feels different. We’re now empty nesters, adjusting to life and travel without him. It’s a significant change, but one filled with new possibilities.
Why Alaska?
Alaska offers new experiences and adventures. It’s different from our usual beach trips, promising wildlife and scenic landscapes. We look forward to seeing bears and experiencing the Alaskan wilderness.
Challenges of Stepping Out of Comfort Zones
Venturing out of our comfort zones is challenging but necessary. Trying new things is part of our journey and growth. It’s about embracing the adventure and opportunities that come our way.
Final Reflections Before Starting Journey
Being empty nesters is new to us, but it’s an exciting phase. We’re ready to see what Alaska has in store and can’t wait to share updates with you.
Next, we’ll explore Ohio, then head to Chicago, and soon start the main leg of our trip to Alaska. Stay tuned for more from our camper van life adventure to Alaska!
